Accent

Accent lighting creates depth and focus. It directs the eye, highlights architectural form, or isolates a single feature tree within a dark garden. This collection is for precise applications – uplighting, moonlighting from above, or grazing a textured wall. We offer narrow beam optics for columns and softer washes for garden beds. These fixtures provide the optical control and durability required for professional specifications.

Specifying Accent Lights

Our accent fixtures are intended for professional specification. They provide the reliable performance and service life required for high-end landscape and architectural projects. Most fixtures in our collection are manufactured in Australia, Europe, USA and New Zealand to exacting standards.

Application and effect

Accent lights are task-focused. They spotlight specific features – trees, hedges, or architectural elements. When mounted in trees, they create ‘moonlighting’ effects, casting dappled light onto pathways and lawns below. Smaller accent uplights can be installed in large urns for terrace and courtyard applications where in-ground installation isn’t possible.

Aiming and mounting options

Precise aiming is critical. Our fixtures feature adjustable knuckles and rotating necks to allow for exact beam placement after installation. We provide a full range of mounting options:

  • Ground Spikes
The most common application for garden beds (often included).
  • Extension Posts
For elevating fixtures above ground cover plants and low vegetation.
  • Surface Plates
For secure mounting on decks, paving, or walls.
  • Tree Mounts
For elevated downlighting and moonlighting effects.

Materials for Australian conditions

Durability is critical in Australia. Our fixtures are typically built from machined metals to withstand the elements

  • Solid Brass & Copper
Our premium choices for longevity. They offer superior corrosion resistance, making them essential for coastal settings, and will develop a natural patina.
  • Powder-Coated Aluminium
We use high-grade die-cast aluminium with specialised, durable powder-coat finishes (like Black or Bronze) for a sleek, modern aesthetic that resists fading.
  • Composite Materials
Selected fixtures use advanced composite construction for specific applications where weight or non-conductive properties are required.

Glare Control and Responsible Lighting

Managing spill light and glare is essential for neighbour comfort and Dark Sky compliance. We recommend snoots and glare guards where it is necessary to prevent light spill into unwanted areas such as neighbouring properties or windows. These accessories can be specified for most fixtures in the collection.

System Requirements

All exterior accent lights are weatherproof, with high IP ratings (IP44 or higher) for protection against dust and water. They are typically low-voltage (12V AC or 24V DC) for safety and require a suitable weatherproof transformer (driver). Our team can assist in selecting the correct transformer and optics – beam angle, colour temperature and wattage – to achieve the desired lighting effect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Accent lights are used to spotlight or highlight outdoor features such as trees, shrubs, hedges and architectural features. The tree-mounted options aim light downwards for moonlighting lawns and pathways and floodlighting.

The light beam can be aimed at by using an adjustable knuckle and by rotating the neck. It is either mounted on a spike, a surface plate or tree mount. It will be designed to be weatherproof, and most fixtures manufactured in Australia and Europe will have a high IP rating (IP44 or higher) or an equivalent. Accents which are installed in a garden bed or tree are always low voltage such as 24V DC or 12V AC and suitable weatherproof transformers (drivers) are required. Our range of Accents provide many different choices of lamp types and optics such as beam angles, colour temperatures and wattages. We can assist you to select the right accent for your needs.

Accents must be durable. They are normally made from machined metal, such as powdercoat aluminium, powdercoat or natural brass and sometimes copper or composite. When used in coastal settings, either brass, copper or a special powdercoat on aluminium must be selected to avoid corrosion caused by saltwater spray.

The most common application for accent lights is for uplighting feature trees or shrubs. The accent will usually be mounted on a ground spike, and it is often included with the fixture. If the light needs to be elevated about ground cover plants and other vegetation, extension posts can be used. The smaller accent up lights can be installed in large urns. We recommend the use of snoots or glare guards where it is necessary to stop the light glare from spilling into areas such as over

The choice impacts both durability and aesthetics. Solid Brass, like the LOL-ACC-0379, offers maximum corrosion resistance and is ideal for coastal environments. It will patina naturally over time. Die-cast Aluminium, like the LOL-ACC-0215, is finished with a durable powder coat for a sleek, modern look in various colours.

No. Our low-voltage (12V/24V) accent lights require a separate weatherproof transformer, also called a driver. This allows for a flexible system design. Our team can help select the correct transformer to match the total wattage of your lighting plan.

Most accent lights include a ground spike. We also offer surface-mounting plates for installation on hard surfaces – such as decks, concrete or paving – and tree-mounting kits for elevated applications. Extension posts are available where fixtures need to be elevated above ground cover or low vegetation.

The IP (Ingress Protection) rating measures weatherproofing. An IP65 rating ensures the fixture is ‘dust-tight’ and protected against jets of water. An IP67 rating means it can withstand temporary immersion, making it suitable for locations prone to pooling water. All our fixtures are rated for reliable outdoor performance.

Snoots and glare guards are accessories that control light spill and reduce glare. They’re essential when fixtures are positioned where direct view of the lamp could cause discomfort or where light needs to be contained within a specific area – for example, preventing spill into neighbouring properties or windows.

Beam angle is key to the effect. Use a narrow beam (15-25°) for tall, narrow trees, columns or to project light a long distance. A medium beam (30-40°) is the most versatile, suitable for most feature trees and shrubs. A wide beam (60°+ or ‘flood’) is used for illuminating broad areas, large hedges or grazing architectural walls.
