Light on Landscape has been awarded a Commendation at the 2025 IESANZ Lighting Awards for the Portsea Cliffs Feature Pendant, a peer-reviewed recognition from Australia and New Zealand’s leading lighting body.
The award celebrates innovation in application and installation, and acknowledges the project’s seamless integration of aesthetics, sustainability and technical execution.
Designed for a private residence in Portsea, the custom pendant sits within a Lisa Ellis designed garden and anchors the outdoor dining space while remaining sensitive to the coastal setting and night-sky considerations. The brief called for a warm ambience and a focal light to support family gatherings.
Our design team, Amander Flaherty and Caroline Blackburn, worked within the site’s particular constraints to balance form and function. The coastal environment demanded engineering for salt exposure, water ingress and wind. The design specified dual switching to provide separate control of uplighting and downlighting to respond to the seasons.
The pendant was fabricated locally with Marine-grade 316 stainless steel and uses our LOL-DOW-0388 – Mini Down Light to place light precisely, achieve uniformity and reduce glare. The result is comfortable light for conversation and dining, without spill or distraction.
The project highlights Light on Landscape’s approach to problem-solving and its ability to create a resolved element that is practical to maintain and built to last.
The pendant has become a talking point for the client’s family and guests and underscores Light on Landscape’s commitment to thoughtful, tailored lighting that balances aesthetics, performance and respect for the site.
